Man,
Intervention is a downer. Between the alcoholism, the anorexia and the
8-10 per-day dust can huffing habits, it is
really hard to watch that show and maintain a positive outlook on life. Luckily,
Kristin Chenoweth, Broadway diva and effervescent star of
Pushing Daisies, has found a solution to all that nastiness: a peppy song about the dangers of crystal meth.
Chenoweth has teamed up with Funny or Die to create her own episode of
Intervention. It still has distraught family members confronting an addict in a nondescript hotel room, but instead of a laundry list of ways that Bob, a musician and a meth addict, is ruining his and everyone else's life, there's a peppy song about "Tina," the poor man's cocaine, that includes warnings about "waking up in a pile of your own urine and doo-doo."
The video is after the jump.

"Guess Who's Coming to Denver?":
The Daily Show is back! They'll be in Denver for the whole
Democratic National Convention, workin' their shiny new set. It's pretty much just Jon's "j" desk and a whole lot of big screens hanging in the back. The gang was in full form, and I believe this was the most I've laughed at the show in a while. Perhaps it only feels that way because the show has been gone for a week and a Monday. Thank goodness they returned, because I was starting to get the shakes.

Originally, the new season of
Survivor had an announced premiere date of September 18. We can scratch that now. It's been changed to two back-to-back episodes on September 25. Don't tell me they're actually thinking ahead and realize that football or something else would preempt the season premiere. It's not like CBS to realize such things!
Jeff Probst will be the host, asking his Probsting questions at Tribal Council. Read on past the jump to check out the new castaways!

Okay, when I posted about the television personalities that have pitched computers, I didn't think that this would become a series. Yet, when I saw a comment from reader ThomasD, I had to prep another one because, frankly, this one is weird.
The ad features the fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker, and then-current companion Romana, played by Lalla Ward, which puts the commercial sometime around 1980. The Prime automated office system seems to be a part of Prime Computer, a Massachusetts-based company that produced microcomputers from 1972 until 1992. According to the wonderful world of Wikipedia, the office automaton system that Who and Romana talk about featured electronic mail that functioned between Prime networks only and word processing on dumb terminals.
This is a very unusual ad. Even for the Doctor Who episodes of the era, the writing on this commercial was sub-par. Plus, why would the doctor need a rigid computer system like this when the systems on the TARDIS could probably handle billions of processes trillions of nanoseconds faster. Coming from such an advanced race as the Time Lords you would think that they would have some form of word processing! Unless, they were all using Windows. Ohhh, the horror!

Be honest: who doesn't let out a good guffaw when watching somebody famous snap on TV? Or better yet, screw up?
Apparently, Bill O'Reilly is a big offender, since he is practically the star of the "outbursts" section of
30 Hilarious TV Meltdowns, Outbursts and Blunders, a collection of video clips highlighting these funnies. In classic
American Idol style, an auditioner from the
X Factor goes off on Simon Cowell and friends when she is rejected. Whoo-boy.
My favorite meltdown has got to be when Bill Clinton loses it in fits of laughter when Boris Yeltsin calls a reporter a disaster, after the reporter claims their summit was one. Or is it when a bunch of kids pelt a reporter with snowballs?

Check out this new AdultSwim.com interview with voice actor Michael Sinterniklaas, who plays, among other characters in the cartoon world, Dean Venture of
The Venture Bros. In this video, you get to watch him get his hair cut. Oh, and he talks about
The Venture Bros. but that's really secondary to my original intention of making sure you coiffure-fetish folks get your fill even on a TV site.
The best part is his Patrick Warburton impression, which was brief but sounded pretty spot-on. Apparently, all it takes to do a decent Brock voice is to drop your tone down, groan with frustration and say, "Ahh, boys..." Sinterniklaas also shares a story about one of his biggest fans' Dean tattoo, which is sweet and further enforces that the folks on
Venture Bros. are super wonderful to their fans. Click after the jump and check it out.

Last time on Saturday Morning we took a look at the ABC schedule for the 1972-73 season. This time around, we are looking at the lineups for CBS and NBC.
As mentioned in the previous post, the way that the Saturday morning schedule shaped-up during 1972 was due, in part, to the way that then Saturday Morning programmer for ABC, Michael Eisner, decided to infuse it with a bit of primetime philosophy. The result for the other two networks was a schedule that featured more movie-like and variety-based cartoons as well as animated fare that emulated the primetime hits of that day. In addition, some primetime talent was brought onto Saturday mornings to help jumpstart the educational fare that had slogged along during the last two years. By combining primetime personality with animated programming the networks introduce a new genre of program into the mix.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would now like to take you into the world of how a writer of TV-related items thinks during his day. After reading about Jerry Seinfeld's new role as pitchman for Microsoft's Vista operating system my mind didn't turn to thoughts of how Jerry has become a corporate shill and will do anything to get his mug back on television. Nor did I think about the many pluses and minuses of Microsoft Vista. No, what I reflected upon was the fact that Jerry is not the first high-profile television personality to promote a computer.
That, in turn, brought me to YouTube and its glorious library of video history, from which I was able to cull a few examples of those other big-time TV folks who expounded on the glories of those new-fangled personal computers. New-fangled, you question? Yes, because these examples all come from the 1980s: the dawn of the personal computer era. Here are five examples of our favorite stars promoting the dickens out of their Commodore, Atari, and Texas Instruments computers.

For once I'm not talking about any of the
Burger King spots that have that creepy King guy, with his terrifying blank stare and equally scary son. No, I'm talking about the commercial with the guy hiding in a motel late at night, eating one of the new Cheesy Bacon Tender Crisp chicken sandwiches. A cow shows up at the door to confront him ... because the guy isn't eating burgers.
Huh? Why would a cow -- which is made of burgers -- be upset that a customer
isn't eating him or his friends? Does he own stock in the company and wants customers to eat burgers instead of chicken? That wouldn't even make sense because even if the cow did hold some BK stock
* selling chicken would be just as good as selling meat. Or maybe this is an example of the "death wish" type of advertising that Pete Campbell talked about in the
Sterling Cooper pitch to Lucky Strike?
Even those cute M&M guys don't go around saying "eat me."
*This will probably be the only time in my life that I write about cows owning stock in a corporation.

The marriage of the internet and television production continues to mature. The latest entry, launching this week, is
Gemini Division. While it's too early to tell how the 50 episode saga is going to ultimately be received, it's still worth talking about.
Gemini Division is another big step for the future of internet-based productions.
The show is being produced by NBC Universal Digital Studios, which, among other things, means a much larger budget. Something evident in the cast which includes the star of the show, Rosario Dawson. That's a pretty big name for what is ultimately another experiment in the medium. She's joined by Justin Hartley, Danny Woodburn, John Kapelos, Kevin Alejandro, Fransois Chau, and Elizabeth Bogush, among others. It's not exactly
Ocean's 11, but those are all pretty recognizable actors.

The mystery of the spaghetti-eating cat has been solved.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the skinny. During a segment on binge drinking on
The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, the show suddenly - and without any explanation at all - switched to a picture of a cat seated at a table eating a plate of pasta. The cat wasn't on the show and they never said why it happened. But now
a spokesman for the show has explained what happened. It wasn't a technical glitch or similar error, it was actually done on purpose! The woman talking about binge drinking said something shouldn't have said, so instead of using the usual "bleep" the show went to this picture of a spaghetti-eating cat. If you watch the clip after hearing this explanation you can actually tell that's what happened, because the audio drops out too and when they come back co-host Juliet has a half-smile/half grimace on her face, as if something bad was just uttered.

If there's one thing we can all hate the Internet for is that it has given an amazing array of people the ability to just sit back and complain about everything in the world, even if it doesn't warrant complaining or insults (especially if it doesn't). Today's example: the new commercials for Boston Market (video after the jump).
The ad shows those twins that have been doing the most recent ads for the chain talking about the new meals they offer that cost only $4.99. Only the brother on the left in the video is clearly saying something else, "$5.99," and they dubbed a "4" over the "5" when the price dropped. For some reason, this is causing controversy on blogs from
Gawker to Mediabistro's
AgencySpy. Oooooo, they caught them in a "lie."

I've always been a fan of
House, but last season's two-part finale, "
House's Head" and "
Wilson's Heart," are two of the best episodes that the series has ever done. So after such a stellar ending, I'm completely psyched for this season. I've been dying all summer to find out how 13's diagnosis is affecting her, what the fallout is from Amber's death, and most importantly, are we ever going to see Cameron and Chase again, except in passing?
The fifth season premiere airs on September 16, and we've included
a couple of videos after the jump. Click through to find out at least partial answers to two of the questions I posted above.

(S03E12) Firstly, a bit of news. Both Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, as opposed to a solo Doc, will be attending this year's
Dragon*Con in Georgia, so go see them if you can. Secondly, the guys have done a
video commentary for "ORB" and you can watch it on Adult Swim's website. Not as many off-topic ramblings that we know and love in this one, so if you miss irrelevance and mimed nunchuck skills, revisit the old
"The Buddy System" commentary. And last but not least... This week's episode premiered on the Adult Swim Fix as usual, but this time there's actually bonus footage that was not included in the televised version. It's pretty self-contained, but definitely worth a watch. I've embedded it here, to save you that exhausting trip across teh internetz.
